Internet Explorer 6 is software from Microsoft Corporation, which enables you to browse or explore (as the name suggests) the Internet. Often abbreviated as IE6, it is very popular and is in fact one of the most used internet browsers.

As compared to its earlier versions, IE6 has many useful features. It has enhanced DHTML (Dynamic HyperText Markup Language), better support for CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), DOM (Document Object Model) and SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language). New features include integration of windows messenger, automatic image resizing and fault collection.

Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (Service Pack 1), which is the latest release of Internet Explorer 6, supports Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P). P3P is a technology that the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is currently developing. This technology helps to protect the privacy of users' personal information on the Internet by simplifying the process for deciding whether and under what circumstances personal information is disclosed to Web sites.

Due to the proprietary extensions by Microsoft of HTML, CSS and DOM many web pages now can only be viewed properly with IE6. If you try to open web pages built using such proprietary extensions with other web browsers such as Netscape, Firefox etc., the web page will not open properly.

IE6 also lacks RSS reader and misses a build-in search toolbar.

Advantages:

IE 6 includes a pop-up blocker.
It informs you when Web sites attempt to load ActiveX software onto your system.
User-friendly interface.

Disadvantages:

Does not support open web browser community.
No RSS reader provided.
It misses a built-in search engine toolbar.
Expensive technical support.

You can turn it off. Open Software Informer, choose Options => General settings and tick the box "Don't notify me about beta
versions".

I think YouTube uses Flash technology, so the problem with flash plugin in firefox, try to reinstall/renew flash player from the
adobe site.

IE is very slow compared to other browsers when it comes to launch time and ability to access websites quickly. There is an
irritating 'Run Once' window that comes up upon launch that I have found impossible to eliminate even though my Home page is set
to 'About blank'.
